Since AI first emerged, it has been making its place in almost every field, and music is no exception. Many people have shared mixed opinions about this growing technological revolution, and now Kelly Clarkson has also shared her thoughts on the matter. The singer said that she loves AI, but she also draws the line when it comes to the charts.
Kelly supports AI creativity while calling for separate charts for AI-generated music
Recently, American singer Kelly Clarkson appeared on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast, where the hosts and songwriter had a detailed conversation about creativity and AI. During the discussion, Clarkson said that she supports AI creativity while also calling for separate charts for AI-generated music.
Clarkson said, “Controversial, I don’t care. Here’s the thing: I love AI. There are very amazing things with AI that I’m obsessed with. I’m very into it artistically, too. I have fun with it just like everybody else does.” Not only that, but the songwriter later referred to an AI as her lover, saying, “My lover, ChatGPT.”
Although Clarkson has shown her support for and love of artificial intelligence, we also got to hear another opinion from the singer when it comes to AI-generated music. “But when you see AI artists competing on a chart with humans, I have an issue. I think there should be a separate chart,” she said.
However, she has no problem with AI music; instead, she thinks, “it’s welcome to the table.” Adding further, “It’s really cool and creative what we’re going to create with AI, musically.”
For context, the American singer has recorded more than 200 studio songs throughout her career, with at least 57 of them solely written by her. However, there have been no reports suggesting that the 44-year-old has ever used AI in her music. That said, fan-made AI vocals using the singer’s voice are available online.
