Anne Hathaway is expecting her third child. The 43-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who married Adam Shulman in 2012, is already a mother to two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. But her latest pregnancy has brought an unexpected symptom that surprised her.
Anne Hathaway opens up about the ‘main symptom’ during her third pregnancy
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she said, “I found out I was pregnant like two and a half weeks before The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour kicked off. And I was just like, ‘How’s that going to work?’”
Hathaway said her first pregnancy left her feeling mostly tired. This time, however, she explained, “I got really lucky. You know, my main symptom during my first pregnancy was fatigue, and that didn’t happen this time. This time my main symptom was… Well, acne, but I had, like, the craziest sense of smell.”
Speaking to Fallon, she joked that her unusually sensitive sense of smell had reached a point where she could “smell time.” “You don’t just smell this summer, you smell all of them. I went back to the 80s. There were many strikes there,” she said.
She described the experience as “amazing” and compared it to a scene from Goodfellas. She explained that moving through the back entrances of hotels meant passing numerous garbage bins and kitchens before getting into elevators, where she could smell every room service order. The actress said that during her first trimester, her main goal was to avoid “dry heaving in public.” Now that she is in her third trimester, she is focused on not “waddling in public.”
Amid her pregnancy, Hathaway is also promoting Michael Showalter’s psychological thriller Verity, in which she plays the title character, Verity Crawford. With a reported budget of $40 million, the film is set for worldwide release on October 2.
