Tate McRae admitted her viral Lollapalooza gold paint finale looked far more glamorous than it actually felt. The pop star said the metallic liquid resembled “Nickelodeon slime” while describing the stunt’s messy reality. McRae recalled lying in the bathtub, coating herself, then crawling out before finishing her headlining set. She called the moment “fun” and said she was thrilled the ambitious stage idea actually worked. The performance took place on August 2 in Chicago.
Tate McRae compares her gold paint to ‘Nickelodeon slime’ in new interview
During the October 7 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Tate McRae revisited her Lollapalooza stunt. “It’s like Nickelodeon slime,” she told Jimmy Fallon while describing the gold paint. She added, “It wasn’t sexy at all,” despite how polished the finale appeared onstage.
McRae also recalled, “I’m lying in the bathtub like trying to put it on my body.” Then came the awkward exit. “And then I’m like, crawling out of the bathtub,” she said. Even so, she stressed, “But it was so fun.”
McRae’s creative team used 660 gallons of skin-safe gold liquid for the August 2 finale. The material was developed with Wesley Goodrich and Blair Adhesives, the company behind Nickelodeon’s famous green slime. Meanwhile, the concept had been planned for months with designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin and McRae’s team.
On “The Tonight Show,” she said they had been “dreaming of it for so many months.” McRae noted, “He did my Met Gala dress, which was gold.” She added, “We just had this vision of getting a bathtub on stage.” Then she admitted, “I mean, it sounds insane.”
The stunt delivered the visual McRae wanted for her 90-minute Lollapalooza headlining debut. The “Sports car” singer finished the set covered in shimmering gold before the crowd. Looking back, she told Fallon, “I’m so happy we pulled it off.”
Meanwhile, McRae’s schedule remains busy beyond the festival moment. She has been preparing to release “Housewife” on October 15. She is also scheduled for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 18. Additionally, she recently launched her first fragrance, TATE 01.
