Antonoff took the stage at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on September 15. During the show, a fan asked him to perform the Bleachers track “Let’s Get Married.” Given its title, the 2017 song took on a pointed meaning following his split from Qualley. In an Instagram clip, Antonoff immediately rejected the request.

“Absolutely not,” he said with a laugh. He then added, “Read the news, brother.”

The crowd laughed at his blunt response. Antonoff quickly softened the moment and said he still loved the song. He explained that he wrote the track around 11 years ago, long before he started dating Qualley.

The exchange attracted attention because Antonoff has rarely discussed his breakup with Qualley publicly. Reports of their split first surfaced in July. The couple started dating in 2021 and tied the knot in August 2023. Reports of their split later raised questions about a possible divorce. However, neither party had confirmed a divorce filing.

Earlier coverage of the couple’s split also examined signs of trouble before the news emerged. Antonoff drew attention when he attended Taylor Swift’s wedding without Qualley.

Antonoff’s latest reaction suggests he can now joke about the breakup. His response to the request came quickly and left little doubt about his meaning.

The unexpected exchange also showed his continued affection for the track. He declined to perform it but stressed that he still loved the song. The awkward request ultimately gave Antonoff a chance to address the split publicly.
