A Big Bang Theory spin-off could be setting up another franchise crossover. The showrunner has teased a potential return from the actor who played Sheldon Cooper, though the series has not officially confirmed a comeback.
Iain Armitage, who played the titular prodigy for seven seasons on Young Sheldon, has yet to appear on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. However, showrunner Steve Holland revealed that he remains in regular contact with Armitage and has discussed the possibility of bringing him back.
Why Iain Armitage hasn’t appeared on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage yet
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland discussed the possibility of more Young Sheldon reunions. The showrunner said the creative team enjoys bringing back members of the earlier show’s cast when their characters can fit into a story.
Holland addressed Armitage’s absence from the series. He revealed that he remains in contact with the actor and that they have talked about a possible return. Holland said, “I think he is trying to give himself a little distance from it.” However, the showrunner believes Armitage could eventually return. He added, “I think at some point he’ll come back.”
Holland also emphasized the strong relationship between Armitage and the Young Sheldon cast. He said there is “a ton of love” between the actor, the cast, and the production team. He would also welcome the chance to work with Armitage again, saying, “It would be fun to spend a week with Iain again.”
The showrunner also mentioned Ed Begley Jr. and Wallace Shawn as actors he would like to bring back. However, Holland explained that their characters were part of Sheldon’s world, making it harder to bring them naturally into Georgie’s story.
Young Sheldon ended in 2024 after seven seasons, while Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continues the story of Sheldon’s older brother. Holland has not confirmed Armitage’s return yet, but his comments leave room for another crossover.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 3 premieres on CBS on October 8, 2026.
