Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly tuning out the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “noise” surrounding their lives. According to multiple reports, the Sussexes returned to the UK from California on August 26 and are planning to remain in the country for an extended period. Harry and Meghan are reportedly staying at a private, non-royal residence in Birmingham.
The couple’s return has once again fueled speculation about their relationship with the Waleses, with reports claiming that the two couples have had little to no contact since Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals and relocated to the U.S. in January 2020.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are focused on avoiding distractions after the Sussexes’ UK return
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly focusing on what truly matters amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s headline-making UK return. Ailsa Anderson, the late Queen Elizabeth’s press secretary, discussed the alleged cold war between the two brothers with PEOPLE.
Anderson explained that William and Kate don’t want to be “distracted” by “all this other noise” related to the Sussexes. However, royal historian Amanda Foreman had a different view on the matter altogether.
According to Foreman, it would be “incredibly draining” for the Waleses to simply avoid Harry and Meghan, as the brothers are now residing in the same country. Foreman told the outlet: “They will always have to look over their shoulders and factor them in. And all they can do is deflect.” The royal historian explained that the future king cannot possibly escape people asking him about patching up with his estranged brother.
However, royal author Simon Vigar emphasized William and Kate taking a middle path, which is “to keep calm and carry on.” Moreover, Russell Myers expressed that when it comes to Harry and Meghan’s current status within the royal family, Charles and William are fully in agreement with one another. The king and the future heir to the throne are completely in sync about the fact that the Sussexes don’t represent the royal family.
For those unversed, King Charles issued a letter through the Lord Chamberlain, the top palace official, confirming that the Sussexes will remain “private citizens.” They will also not be permitted to undertake royal engagements or use their royal titles.
The Sussexes’ spokesperson issued a statement, saying they “were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”
