One of Avengers: Secret Wars Leads Is Reportedly a Dead MCU Villain

Avengers: Secret Wars is gearing up to begin production, and the rumor mill is already working overtime. With cameras set to roll imminently, insider chatter suggests one of the film’s central roles could belong to a character audiences last saw meet a tragic end.

Scarlet Witch rumored to be one of the leads in Avengers: Secret Wars

Insider @MyTimeToShineH reports that Wanda Maximoff will be “one [of] the main leads in Avengers: Secret Wars.” If accurate, the Scarlet Witch would move from cameo territory into the film’s emotional core.

Marvel Studios apparently plans to fold elements of Avengers: The Children’s Crusade into its upcoming Avengers films. That arc follows Wiccan and Speed hunting for their mother, a memory-wiped Wanda engaged to Doctor Doom. Such a storyline would connect the Young Avengers, the X-Men, and Doom’s rise within one narrative thread.

Additional chatter suggests Wanda appears in a post-credits scene for Avengers: Doomsday, where she may assemble heroes to fight Doom. The character has sat on the sidelines since 2022, when she seemingly died beneath Mount Wundagore.

Moreover, Wanda’s grief, guilt, and reality-warping power make her an easy target for manipulation. Doom could exploit those wounds to establish himself as the Multiverse Saga’s ultimate threat while pushing the Scarlet Witch back into the spotlight.

Elizabeth Olsen has kept the door open. “It’s a character I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I’ve been lucky when I started, I was used well…and they kind of didn’t know what to do with me for a second there!” she previously said. “If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back” (via Comic Book Movie). However, Marvel has not announced Olsen’s return or clarified Wanda’s role in future projects.

The Russo Brothers direct both upcoming crossover movies. Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
