Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to the UK, hoping to have a fresh start, according to an insider. However, the Palace’s intervention seems to have derailed some of the Sussexes’ future plans. They moved back to Britain late last month, which indubitably raised questions about their position with respect to the royal family.
Palace intervention left Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reevaluating UK future, per source
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as working royals in 2020. They subsequently moved to the US to start a new life. Six years later, they have moved back across the pond. This stirred speculation about their position outside the monarchy. The Palace’s intervention in this situation, in the form of a letter from King Charles, allegedly has them reconsidering their future in the UK.
“This has never really been about whether Harry and Meghan can settle down and enjoy a comfortable private life in Britain,” one royal insider said to RadarOnline.com. “The much bigger question is whether they can create the kind of future they appear to have envisaged – one where they remain highly visible public figures, pursue major charitable projects and maintain some association with the royal world, while still operating completely independently of the Palace.”
“They returned hoping there would be enough breathing room to establish a new chapter on their own terms,” the source added. “What they are discovering is that the Palace boundaries remain extremely firm and there is very little appetite for allowing those lines to become blurred again.”
During the Sandringham Summit Agreement in 2020, the late Queen Elizabeth had clearly stated that Harry and Meghan would not have the “half-in, half-out” status. This implied that they could not make money commercially while working as senior royals. King Charles’ letter firmly reiterated those boundaries, stating that the Sussexes remain “private citizens” and will not resume royal duties.
