It is bizarre to imagine that Ryan Reynolds could lose out on a film that he has already been hired for today. However, when he was starting out, that is exactly what happened, and the reason was more than a little hurtful for the Green Lantern alum.
On his Sneaker Shopping interview with Complex’s Joe La Puma, Reynolds revealed that he was booted from one of the first films that he was hired to do because he, at 6 feet, 2 inches, was taller than the lead actor. Regarding the firing, he revealed, “Man, it hurt, you know? Cuz you thought, ‘Wow, I can’t f–king control that.'”
He then revealed that the experience prompted him to wear Chuck Taylors, which had very little heel, hence not adding to his height.
Ryan Reynolds recently starred in the action-comedy Mayday on Apple TV+
Ryan Reynolds’ most recent film is the action-comedy film Mayday, written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Reynolds co-stars in the leading role with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets alum Kenneth Branagh.
The film debuted on Apple TV+ and follows Reynolds’ Troy “Assassin” Kelly through the wilds of Soviet Russia. Set in the waning days of the Cold War, Kelly’s spy plane is shot down, but he is rescued by an ex-KGB agent, Branagh’s Nikolai Ustinov. Ustinov is ready to assist Kelly on one condition: Kelly needs to provide safe passage for Ustinov and his estranged daughter. The catch, however, is that Kelly was supposed to be on a top-secret mission, so the United States might not even acknowledge his existence, much less be open to mounting a rescue for him.
This seemingly grim premise gives way to a jubilant buddy-comedy, which critics and fans alike have said suffered from being released on streaming. The film also stars Marcin Dorociński, Maria Bakalova, David Morse, among others.
