Hoda Kotb says Sandra Bullock’s adoption journey inspired her to become a mother to daughters Haley and Hope
During a recent appearance on the Making Space podcast, Kotb credited Bullock’s own adoption journey with inspiring a major change in her life. The former Today anchor said, “Ten years ago, right now, I was upset because I realized — I was 51 or 52 — and I realized that I had missed the window to have children, and I felt terrible about it, and I was so upset.” She eventually stopped worrying about it, reminding herself that she “can’t get everything in life.”
Around the same time, Bullock adopted her son, Louis. After hearing the news, Kotb began considering adoption. “I literally Googled, ‘How old is Sandra Bullock?’ I was like, ‘She’s my exact age,’ and I burst into tears. I reached out, and I called you, and I said, ‘I have to ask you a question.'” Bullock told Kotb that adopting was “the best thing” she had ever done.
Kotb said, “She changed the course of my life. I now have a nine-year-old and a seven-year-old solely because of that moment.” Kotb and Bullock struggled to hold back their tears during the emotional conversation.
Kotb said she felt “extreme gratitude” as she reflected on having one daughter heading into fourth grade and another starting second grade. She also revealed that she once showed her eldest daughter, Haley, a photo of Bullock. Haley then asked if Bullock was “the lady.” Nicole Kidman, who was also present for the interview, called Bullock “the angel” who helped make Kotb’s family possible. Kidman and Bullock joined the conversation while promoting Practical Magic 2, which is set to hit theaters on September 10.
