Kristen Bell opens up about the emotional toll of raising two daughters with husband Dax Shepard
Speaking to Bustle, Kristen Bell said she wants to be honest about the realities of marriage and parenting because it helps other families feel less alone. “It’s hard. Do not think because I am on your television that it is easy for me. It’s brutal. I cry weekly,” she said.
Bell explained that she often turns to parenting experts, including Dr. Becky Kennedy and psychologist Lisa Damour, for advice. She added that many parents feel isolated during their children’s teenage years, even though those struggles are common.
The actress also revealed that her approach to discussing daughters Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11, has changed as they have grown older. While she and Dax Shepard once shared funny parenting stories, Bell now believes her daughters’ privacy comes first. “My main job in life is to protect those two,” Bell said. She explained that her children are now old enough to see media coverage and develop their own feelings about what is shared publicly.
Bell also reflected on balancing motherhood with her career. She said she carefully chooses projects that do not keep her away from her family for long periods. According to the actress, nothing matters more than being present for her daughters.
Meanwhile, Shepard has also spoken openly about parenting on his Armchair Expert podcast. The couple has often shared their unconventional parenting philosophy while encouraging their daughters to speak up for themselves.
Bell and Shepard have been married since 2013 and continue to be open about both the rewards and challenges of family life.
