A new Hooters movie based on true-crime stories has been released today. It is a documentary that features the murders of women who worked for the restaurant. It is different from another upcoming Hooters movie, which has Sydney Sweeney fans hoping she will be cast.
The Hooters Murders: Deadly Shift has been released on Oxygen. The documentary follows real investigations into a series of killings of Hooters employees from 2001 to 2010. Kevin Brennecke served as the showrunner and also actively conducted extensive research and interviews with his team.
Together, they interviewed the family members of the victim, former staff members, and journalists to bring these underreported tragedies to light. According to TV Insider, the documentary humanizes its victims and challenges the stigma associated with their employment. These include the murders of Prisma Contreras and Alissa Blanton, along with more waitresses who were victims of harassment.
The official synopsis reads, “Between 2001 and 2010, separated by thousands of miles, the victims shared one connection: they were all associated with Hooters. The Hooters Murders: Deadly Shift is a two-hour documentary that unravels these tragic murders, exposing how young women who were linked to the iconic restaurant chain were preyed upon.”
What are Sydney Sweeney fans saying about her being cast in the new Hooters movie?
In addition to this release, another movie based on the restaurant is in the works. Unlike the true-crime nature of the aforementioned documentary, Hooters: The Movie is set in a fictional world that follows Ted and Lenny, two lifelong friends from a small town in Iowa who accidentally launch a national restaurant empire, only to find everything they built threatened by the federal government.
When Culture Crave reported it on X, many Sydney Sweeney fans and general audiences hoped that the Euphoria star would be cast in the movie. For instance, insider Daniel Richtman wrote, “Sounds like the perfect film for Sydney Sweeney to star in.”
There were also many similar comments under the post, which stated, “Sydney Sweeney deserves to be in this movie lol.” and “@sydney_sweeney needs to be the star of this movie.”
Sweeney previously hosted a Saturday Night Live episode titled “Hooters Waitress” in 2024. She played a Hooters waitress, and her character earned thousands of dollars in tips. This role in the comedy sketch was well portrayed by Sweeney, leading many fans and general audiences to pitch her as a dream casting choice for the newly announced Hooters movie.
