Rumors have surfaced online that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is looking to develop a detective show. While fans speculate that this might be in the wake of the success of DC Universe’s Lanterns, industry insider James Mack has a completely different scoop.
When asked by a user on X about the show, Mack revealed that the MCU was actually planning a Special Presentation based around Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Both of these characters were integral parts of Netflix’s side of the MCU. Cage was even teased in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, via his and Jessica Jones’ daughter, Danielle Cage-Jones.
Marvel has officially confirmed nothing, but given that The Punisher, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones have already made their way into the mainline MCU, a Luke Cage or Danny Rand appearance might be closer than expected.
What we know about Marvel’s rumored MCU detective show
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed that any such detective show is in development. Rumors started after online claims from scoopers pointed towards such a project. Fans immediately connected it to the DCU’s Lanterns, which sees Hal Jordan and John Stewart embark on an investigation in a small town.
Rumors have ranged from this being about Nova, the MCU’s closest analog to the Green Lanterns, to this being a story about Luke Cage and Iron Fist forming Heroes for Hire.
Heroes for Hire is the name that Power Man and Iron Fist go by when they team up. The duo has appeared in multiple Marvel properties, including the hugely popular animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Speculation online has also suggested that Tony Masters, aka The Taskmaster, could be a focal point for the show. Several scoopers have denied that this is the case. Currently, the MCU is without a Taskmaster, as the version introduced in the 2021 film Black Widow was killed off in Thunderbolts.
