Gary Oldman Claims the Next James Bond Has Already Been Picked

Gary Oldman claimed the next James Bond actor has already been chosen. The actor also revealed who he hopes will land the iconic 007 role. Oldman shared the update while discussing his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden. His comments come as speculation continues over Daniel Craig’s replacement.

Oldman discussed the Bond casting during an interview with Canada’s The Morning Show. He addressed reports that Lowden remains among the leading contenders. The Oscar-winning actor then suggested that producers have already made their choice.

“It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist,” Oldman said. He then claimed the decision has already been made behind closed doors. “We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him,” Oldman said. “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet.”

Oldman made his preference clear before discussing the upcoming announcement. “So my fingers are crossed for Jack,” he added.

However, Amazon MGM has not confirmed Lowden as the next Bond. The studio has also declined to discuss the casting process. Several actors have reportedly remained in contention for the role.

Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harris Dickinson were reportedly considered. Lowden also appeared among the names linked to the covered role. Tom Francis has also reportedly auditioned for the role.

The next Bond film has already secured its director and writer. Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming movie for Amazon MGM. Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the screenplay.

Lowden already has a major connection with Oldman through Slow Horses. The pair star together in the acclaimed Apple TV+ spy series. Lowden also has another potential Bond connection through his wife, Saoirse Ronan.

Ronan recently said she was “dead serious” about playing a Bond villain. She also pitched the idea of a young female villain. For now, fans must wait for Amazon MGM to officially reveal 007’s next face.
