Nicole Kidman’s Days of Thunder 2 Return Gets Surprising Update in New Report

Fans hoping to see Nicole Kidman return for Days of Thunder 2 just received a major update regarding her potential involvement. In the original 1990 film, Kidman starred as Dr. Claire Lewicki, who developed a romantic relationship with Tom Cruise’s character, Cole Trickle. The upcoming sequel is confirmed to star Cruise alongside Anne Hathaway.

According to a report from Radar Online, an industry insider claims that Cruise is eager for Kidman to reprise her role in the sequel. However, the Oscar-winning actress’s current creative priorities could make an onscreen reunion more complicated than expected.

“It’s a big leap for Nicole to jump onto a bro movie like Days of Thunder 2 for a male director from the Seth Rogen universe of frat boy comedies,” said the insider. “Even if she’s just going to do a signature, one-scene cameo, it has to be creatively perfect for her to do it.”

Why a Days of Thunder 2 cameo isn’t a done deal for Kidman

Over the years, Kidman has established herself as a major production powerhouse in Hollywood after founding her company, Blossom Films, in 2010. The insider told Radar that “the ball is in Nicole’s, and only Nicole’s, court.” In the report, the insider also claims that Kidman has not officially passed on the offer yet.

Reportedly, Kidman joining the film would make “the whole Days of Thunder team” more money, regardless of her role’s intensity. After the sequel was announced, several fans expressed disappointment over Hathaway’s casting. It remains to be seen if Kidman finally makes her return for the project.

Following the release of the first film, Cruise and Kidman entered a relationship that lasted 11 years. Their final film appearance together came in Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 thriller Eyes Wide Shut.

Days of Thunder 2 is currently scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2028.
