Trump escalated his rhetoric further, claiming Iranian authorities have killed “now over 100,000 people” during internal protests. He offered no evidence for the number, which far exceeds previous numbers he has cited. Iranian officials have blamed roughly 3,117 deaths on what they call Israel-backed rioters.
The Truth Social outburst followed military confrontation. US Central Command said Sunday’s rocket strikes on Larak Island aimed to stop the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from placing naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran answered by launching ballistic missiles at two US bases in Jordan. Iran also claimed drone attacks on an Emirati air base, a report the UAE Ministry of Defense denied.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump insisted the vital shipping route remains secure despite Tehran’s blockade. “We’re taking over. Many, many ships got through last night,” he said. “We’ve been averaging 30 ships a night.” Before the social media post, Trump promised swift retaliation. “We’re going to hit them hard,” he told Fox News. “There will be a response.”
