President Donald Trump has cast doubt on mounting speculation regarding the fate of Iran’s supreme leader. The commander-in-chief stated he believes Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei is still alive. This contradicts a recent report suggesting the cleric may have died from wounds sustained during the initial U.S.-Israeli strikes.

Donald Trump addressed the swirling rumors during a radio interview with Glenn Beck, following an explosive report from The Atlantic. The publication indicated that Tehran is “abuzz with new rumors” regarding Khamenei’s death, citing unnamed sources who speculated the leader ultimately succumbed to injuries. Trump pushed back against that narrative.
“I don’t think he’s dead,” Trump stated regarding the Iranian leader. “He was very seriously wounded. The left side of his body, the arm, the leg, the whole thing. He was very seriously wounded but I don’t think he’s dead.” The President suggested that the ongoing behavior of Iranian diplomats serves as evidence of continuity within the regime.
Trump noted that negotiators consistently reference the need to seek Khamenei’s approval before finalizing decisions. If the leader were indeed gone, Trump argued, the delegation would be executing an elaborate deception. “They’re putting on a pretty good show,” Trump said. “They talk about going back to talk to him all the time to get a final blessing on things.”
The uncertainty stems from Khamenei’s total absence from the public eye since his rapid ascension. Following the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the younger Khamenei was selected by Iran’s Assembly of Experts on March 8. However, the latter cleric has not been seen in public since. He was notably absent from his own father’s wake, and no recent photographs, videos, or audio recordings have been released to verify his condition.
Despite the lack of visual proof, Trump remains convinced the leader is incapacitated but breathing. The President provided no intelligence or evidence to substantiate his account of Khamenei’s medical status.
