Donald Trump resurfaced an older CNN segment on Truth Social as a newer poll showed his approval rating at 33 percent. The president shared an August clip featuring CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, highlighting stronger numbers among Republican voters as a newer CNN poll showed his overall approval at a two-term low.
The contrast came as CNN reported that Trump’s approval rating had fallen to 33 percent, the lowest figure in its polling across either of his presidential terms.
Donald Trump reposted Harry Enten’s August segment about a May survey of Republican voters
Trump shared the Enten clip on Sunday afternoon. The footage originally aired on August 26 and focused on Trump’s popularity among Republican voters. In the segment, Enten discussed polling that found 53 percent of Republicans named Trump the Republican president they admired most, compared with 18 percent for Ronald Reagan and 8 percent for Abraham Lincoln.
The August segment presented a more favorable picture of Trump among Republican voters, even as his broader approval ratings remained weak.
At the same time, a newer CNN poll placed Trump’s approval rating at 33 percent among Americans. CNN said the figure was the lowest in its polling across both of his terms.
CNN’s David Chalian also discussed the factors behind the decline, pointing to particularly weak numbers on the economy and inflation. Trump’s approval on the economy stood at 27 percent, while just 20 percent approved of his handling of inflation, according to the CNN poll.
Trump’s decision to revive the older Harry Enten video therefore came against a significantly different polling backdrop. Rather than addressing the newer CNN numbers, he shared a previous segment highlighting his continued support among Republican voters.
The Truth Social post added another example of Trump highlighting favorable media coverage while CNN reported a much lower overall approval figure. However, the available source material did not establish why Trump selected that particular August clip or whether his post was intended as a response to the newer poll.
