Daveigh Chase‘s friend and former business manager torched her mom for trying to take control of Chase’s $400K estate. The estate war takes another turn as her friend John Ryan challenges her mother’s filing to take control of the estate.
Daveigh Chase’s friend John Ryan objects to Cathy Chase controlling her $400,000 estate
John Ryan, Daveigh Chase’s friend and business manager, objects to her mother, Cathy Chase, taking control of the $400,000 estate. According to TMZ, Ryan filed a declaration opposing Cathy Chase’s bid to be appointed administrator of Daveigh’s estate.
In legal documents, Ryan says, “Daveigh was estranged from her father when her parents divorced.” He also claimed Daveigh told him “that in the mid-2000s she filed for legal emancipation from her mother.” According to Ryan, Daveigh took the action because “she believed that her mother was taking advantage of [her] finances and putting [her] physical and mental well-being at risk.”
Ryan also said in the filing that he connected Daveigh with business professionals who could assist her with the emancipation process. He agreed with Daveigh Chase’s father, John Schwallier, that an independent administrator should be appointed. Daveigh’s father previously asked the judge to appoint a third party to administer the estate, claiming Daveigh and his ex-wife had been estranged for years.
The estate dispute follows The Ring star’s death at age 35 on June 16. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that acquired immunodeficiency syndrome was the primary cause of death, with chronic polysubstance use listed as a significant condition. Her manner of death was ruled natural. Chase had reportedly been living in an RV near Los Angeles’ Skid Row before her death. Following her death, her $400,000 estate became the subject of a legal dispute.
Daveigh Chase’s mother filed to be appointed administrator in July. However, her father opposed the request and nominated Megan Boling, a licensed professional fiduciary, to serve as administrator. The court has yet to rule on who will administer Daveigh Chase’s $400,000 estate. Ryan’s latest declaration has added another layer to the dispute.
