Daveigh Chase Had a $400K Estate Despite Living on the Streets — Report

Daveigh Chase’s tragic story took another heartbreaking turn after new court filings revealed the former child star left behind a sizable estate. The actress, best known for “The Ring” and voicing Lilo in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” died last month at age 35.

The newly released probate documents painted a striking contrast between Chase’s reported financial assets and the difficult circumstances surrounding her final years. At the time of her death, she was reportedly unhoused and living in downtown Los Angeles.

Daveigh Chase’s mother has asked to oversee the late actress’ reported $400k estate

According to PEOPLE, Chase died without a will, leaving behind an estate estimated at approximately $400,000 in personal property and not real estate. Court filings showed that her mother, Cathy Chase, petitioned to be appointed administrator of the estate and requested authorization to oversee it under California’s Independent Administration of Estates Act.

The publication reported that the documents also stated Chase was never married, had no children, and was survived by her parents, Cathy Chase and John Schwallier. A probate hearing was scheduled for August 12 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Page Six reported that Cathy also told the court her daughter left behind roughly $400,000 in personal property. She further claimed that Schwallier currently lived in the Philippines at an unknown address while maintaining properties in Las Vegas.

The outlet noted that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner listed Chase’s primary cause of death as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), with chronic polysubstance use listed as another significant condition.

In the years before her death, Chase struggled with addiction and homelessness. According to People, Cathy believed those issues began after a 2016 motorcycle accident, when her daughter was prescribed pain medication. “She was seeking drugs and was partying with the wrong people,” Cathy told the Daily Mail, adding that she never forced her daughter out of the family home and repeatedly tried to help her.

Meanwhile, Page Six reported that Chase’s former manager, John Ryan, disputed an online GoFundMe created by a man claiming to be her boyfriend. Ryan said Chase already had a SAG trust account that could cover expenses and alleged she also had “millions” in unclaimed residual checks.

Ryan also recalled nearly reconnecting with the actress in 2025 after hiring a private investigator to locate her. As he told the outlet, “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.”
