Universal Pictures have found its villain for the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic. The studio has tapped an actor from the Netflix series Nemesis to play Suge Knight. Production begins in Los Angeles this September, and the cast continues to grow with four new additions.
Tre Hale’s casting adds another major figure to Snoop, four more actors join Snoop’s cast
Tre Hale will play Suge Knight, the intimidating co-founder of Death Row Records. Knight built the label into a powerhouse that launched Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Tupac Shakur into mainstream success.
However, the label collapsed in the late 1990s after Snoop Dogg and Dre walked away. Knight later went to prison for 28 years on a manslaughter conviction tied to a fatal hit-and-run near the Straight Outta Compton set in 2015.
Now, Hale brings solid credentials to the part. He held a series regular role on Platonic for AppleTV+, working alongside Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. He also landed a spot in Empire City, an action thriller starring Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell.
Jonathan Daviss leads the biopic as Snoop Dogg. The Outer Banks star takes on the story of the Long Beach rapper who rose from local talent to global icon in the 1990s. Additionally, the studio has now filled out the supporting roster with actors playing key figures from Snoop’s life.
Myles Bullock steps into the role of Dr. Dre, the super-producer who co-founded Death Row and shaped the G-funk sound. Camron Jones will play Tupac Shakur, the volatile rap legend whose time at Death Row ended in tragedy. Algee Smith portrays Warren G, Snoop’s stepbrother and fellow West Coast hitmaker. Lauren London rounds out the group as Snoop Dogg’s mother.
Craig Brewer is directing the feature. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum produce for Imagine Entertainment. Grazer previously guided the semi-autobiographical Eminem drama 8 Mile to critical and commercial success. Snoop Dogg himself produces alongside Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. It’s releasing on August 6, 2027.
