How Love Island USA became Peacock’s summer breakout

Season 8 of Love Island USA released 35 episodes between June 2 and July 13. In that time, Peacock revealed that the show was able to accumulate a watch time of nearly 19 billion minutes. This made the show the most-watched IP for an original season on the platform ever.

The season also saw a large influx of new viewers. According to reports, around 35% of viewers of Love Island USA Season 8 had not watched any of the previous entries in the franchise. Sources also said that the show was able to get a lot of its viewership from cellphones and tablets. The show was allegedly the biggest draw for mobile audiences for Peacock.

Nielsen reported that the eighth season of the show was the most-watched streaming series in summer 2026. The season was also able to generate a lot of chatter on social media, especially on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Adding to these numbers were other milestones, such as the Love Island USA and Peacock apps reaching the No. 1 spot on AppStore during the runtime of Season 8.

The Love Island USA app saw about an 85% increase in users. It is used to vote on competitors on the show, which also saw an overall 35% increase compared to the season before.
