Owen Thiele didn’t need to wonder whether Taylor Swift’s wedding invitation was legitimate. The Adults star said Swift personally invited him while serving a home-cooked meal.
That gave Thiele and his partner, celebrity stylist Jared Ellner, a rather different experience. Some of the couple’s estimated 1,000 guests reportedly mistook their electronic invitations for scams.

In a new interview with Marie Claire, Owen recalled getting his invitation “the old-fashioned way.” Swift simply told him and Jared, “You’re coming to my wedding.” The invitation came over a meal of flaky white fish and rice pilaf. Owen clearly left impressed by more than the wedding news.
“She’s an unbelievable chef,” he told the publication. Jared even asked, “Are you hiding a chef in a closet?” Swift replied, “No, I cooked it.”
Owen then praised Swift as one of those people seemingly good at everything. “She’s even funny, genuinely funny,” he added. “I think she can do literally everything.” The friendship goes back years. Owen told the outlet they met at “an agency party” after Swift watched his web comedy, Eighty Sixed.
“She’d seen Eighty Sixed, which was a web comedy I did—the only thing I’d really done!” he recalled. When Swift later texted him, Owen initially suspected a scam himself.
“Yeah, right, Taylor Swift is texting me. But she was,” he said.
Swift later cast Owen in her 2019 “You Need to Calm Down” video. He also appeared in 2020’s “The Man,” long before his current television success.
Owen attended Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He later shared photos from the celebration with Jared and Sabrina Carpenter.
However, Owen kept the actual festivities under wraps when PEOPLE asked for details. “For now, I’m not saying anything, but Taylor’s magic and so is Travis,” he said.
Before the wedding, he also told Extra that Kelce made Swift “so happy.” For Owen, though, the dinner invitation may have already offered the ultimate RSVP confirmation.
