Adam Scott just shared what it’s really like working with Robert De Niro. The Severance star opened up about their collaboration on the upcoming crime thriller The Whisper Man. The actor admitted feeling “terrified” of meeting De Niro, someone he has admired since his youth.
In a recent appearance on TODAY, the American actor and comedian discussed his new suspense thriller starring opposite De Niro. During the interview, the Severance star revealed he hadn’t met the American producer before the film.
“This is someone whose picture I had up in my locker in high school,” Scott said of De Niro. He then admitted, “I was terrified to meet him and work with him. Obviously, you just don’t want to be terrible in front of Robert De Niro. That’s all I was trying to do the whole time.”
Scott also shared that De Niro celebrated his birthday. The 53-year-old actor and comedian recalled one day they were going through the script and rehearsing in the producer’s office. However, he had decided not to tell anyone that it was his birthday.
“But suddenly, people burst into the room with cupcakes and banana pudding,” Scott shared, adding that they were there at the time. Scott recalled being absolutely stunned that De Niro sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

The Whisper Man is a crime thriller film based on the novel of the same name by Alex North. The movie follows a widowed crime writer who reaches out to his estranged father for help after his 8-year-old son is abducted. He soon discovers that his son’s abduction is connected to the case of a serial killer called The Whisper Man. The film is directed by James Ashcroft with the screenplay by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer.
