HBO announced the second season of its hit horror series from Warner Bros. Television. IT: Welcome to Derry is set to return; however, further details are yet to be announced.
IT: Welcome to Derry Season 2 has been renewed at HBO
HBO has now announced the renewal of the series for a second season. Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, “IT: Welcome to Derry” became one of the hit HBO series globally. The platform was waiting for the creative direction for the new season before renewal, according to Deadline.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, said, “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation. Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”
Clancy Collins White, Warner Bros. Television’s President of Creative Affairs, also shared excitement for Season 2. White added, “We know It: Welcome to Derry will continue to captivate viewers with its spine-tingling new journey into the 1930s for Season 2. We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface.”
Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, who are executive producers of Season 2 under their Double Dream banner, are also returning. They said, “Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege.”
Brad Caleb Kane will take over Season 2 as the sole showrunner. The second season will focus on Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition before entering the town’s supernatural horror. The storyline will also explore Derry’s past in the new season.
Bill Skarsgård is reportedly set to return as Pennywise; however, HBO is yet to confirm the rest of the cast.
