Crystal Lake: Friday the 13th Prequel Has a Very Bloody Promise From Linda Cardellini

Linda Cardellini just warned fans about what Crystal Lake has in store, and it sounds absolutely brutal. The Friday the 13th prequel star teases the Peacock series’ intense practical effects and extended storytelling format ahead of its October premiere.

Linda Cardellini says Crystal Lake series is ‘gory’ with ‘blood everywhere’

Linda Cardellini teases that the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake delivers heavy gore and practical blood effects. The actor discussed the Peacock show during the HBO Max Emmy Nominee Celebration event in Hollywood, as reported by Variety.

Cardellini portrays franchise villain Pamela Voorhees in the eight-episode series launching Oct. 15 on Peacock. The series explores Voorhees’ backstory leading up to the original Friday the 13th film. William Catlett joins the cast as Levon Brooks, although specific character details remain undisclosed.

The actor highlighted how the extended format allows Crystal Lake to balance storytelling with horror. “This is a longer format so there’s a lot more you get to do in eight episodes,” Cardellini said. “It’s not necessarily like 90 minutes of pure horror. There’s a lot of story there. So maybe once in a while you’ll throw some things and scream.”

Cardellini also acknowledged the show leans heavily into visceral practical effects work on set. “It does get gory, yes, so much so that I wish sometimes they weren’t as practical as they were,” Cardellini said. “There’s a couple of gory moments on set that were very practical that were pretty gross. Blood everywhere at one point.”

Playing the villain marked a significant shift from the typical horror roles Cardellini usually receives. “Everything that I’ve ever read that was handed to me that was in that space was for the person who was being chased, not the person who was chasing everyone,” she said. “It was really fun this time to be on the other side of the knife.”

Pamela Voorhees originally debuted in the 1980 Friday the 13th as Jason’s vengeful mother. The character targets those she holds responsible for Jason’s drowning at Camp Crystal Lake in 1957. Cardellini attended the HBO Max Emmy celebration for her nomination for her work in DTF St. Louis.
