Harrison Ford kept Indiana Jones alive with a surprise Disney announcement at 84. The veteran actor revealed plans for a new Walt Disney World attraction featuring his iconic archaeologist.
Ford appeared in a prerecorded message at D23, teasing Indiana’s next adventure. The attraction, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, will arrive at Animal Kingdom.
Harrison Ford will become the model for the Indiana Jones animatronic in Disney World’s new attraction
Ford confirmed he would physically inspire the Indiana Jones animatronic for the attraction. He also promised one very familiar detail: Indy’s legendary fear of snakes.
“Soon it’ll be time for his next ride, and I’m pleased to share that, for the first time ever, I’m the actual model of the Indiana Jones animatronic — fear of snakes included,” Ford said at D23.
“I’m excited for you to see his next epic adventure, and I’m coming to Walt Disney World soon,” he added.
Fans immediately celebrated the announcement across Disney Parks’ Instagram. One fan called the decision the best way to preserve Ford’s legacy.
Another commenter praised the actor as the only true Indiana Jones. Others even demanded Ford retain exclusive control over the character.
Ford first donned the fedora in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. Steven Spielberg then directed three more adventures featuring Ford.
Those films included Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Ford returned again for 2023’s Dial of Destiny.
The five films earned more than $2.3 billion worldwide, according to The Numbers. However, Dial of Destiny delivered a major box-office disappointment for Disney.
Ford still showed little interest in slowing down. He recently displayed his impressive physique while cycling around Los Angeles.
The actor also received the 2026 SAG Life Achievement Award in March. His seven-decade career included another legendary role as Han Solo.
During his acceptance speech, Ford joked about receiving a lifetime award too early. “It’s a little weird to be getting a lifetime achievement award at the halfway point of my career,” he said.
He added, “I’m still a working actor.”
Now, the Indiana Jones animatronic will carry Ford’s likeness into a new Disney Parks adventure. His legacy will keep cracking whips long after the latest film ends.
