It’s astounding what some people come up with when they get pulled over by police. One woman in Georgia who was caught speeding told a deputy that her rights were being violated because he wouldn’t let her drive home first. Unfortunately for her, speeding was only one of many reasons that she was taken into custody.
Woman was charged with “a lengthy list of offenses”
An unnamed woman who was driving a Honda, going 54 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone, resisted arrest when she was pulled over by police, according to a report by Cpl. Dalton Palmer in a post by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office on its official Facebook page.
The deputy tried to initiate the traffic stop, but the woman continued to drive without stopping, going through an intersection and leaving her lane five times. It wasn’t until Palmer was about to use a PIT maneuver that the driver finally brought her vehicle to a stop.
Despite speeding, the woman told the deputy that he had no reason to detain her and that he was “violating her rights because she did not allow her to drive home before stopping.” Now, we’ve been covering stories about drivers being pulled over for speeding for a while, and we have yet to see one instance where the officer has let the driver graciously go home before giving them a ticket.
In addition to speeding and resisting arrest, Palmer discovered that the woman was uninsured, driving without a seat belt, and using a cell phone while driving. On top of that, the Honda had a suspended registration. That’s why she was charged with a “lengthy list of offenses” and transported to the county’s Law Enforcement Center.
Several commenters were surprised by the woman’s irritation at the deputy. One wrote, “‘Violated her rights’? Priceless. That’s why I was a firefighter, not an LEO. I would not been able to keep a straight face.”
Another said, “Wonder why it’s always the rights getting arrested, can rights put that pedal to the metal or talk on their cell phone or not put their seat belt on.”
