The Simpsons Movie 2 has now gotten a new title and a logo. Interestingly, the movie also puts the spotlight on the viral Homer Bush meme.
As per the latest announcement from Disney, the official title of The Simpsons Movie 2 will be The New Simpsons Movie. The latest iteration of the movie will be a sequel to the original Simpsons movie, which was released back in 2007. Additionally, the date of its theatrical release has been confirmed. The New Simpsons Movie is slated to hit theaters on September 3, 2027.
Interestingly, the pavilion for the movie promotion had a setup of the famous Homer Bush meme. For context, the Homer Bush meme has taken over the internet, where Homer Simpson can be seen disappearing slowly into a bush. This iconic scene was first shown in a 1994 Season 5 episode that had the title Homer Loves Flanders.
The Simpsons Movie sequel arrives nearly 20 years after the original film
The New Simpsons Movie arrives two decades after the original feature film debuted in theaters in July 2007. While initial reports targeted a July 23, 2027 release date, which would have marked an exact 20-year anniversary, Disney officially settled on an early September 2027 late-summer theatrical debut.
Speaking of the plot for the first movie, it showcases how Homer unintentionally contaminates the entire water supply of Springfield. Following the mishap, the entire city got sealed off under a massive glass dome. Trying to make amends for his mistake, the story then follows Homer in his attempts to save the people of the entire city while safeguarding his own family.
Written by Matt Groening, there is very little information available about the plot of the movie. Till now, the confirmed actors for the sequel, per IMDb, are Kelly MacLeod, Tress MacNeille, and Maggie Roswell.
