Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Is Bad News for X-Men Fans Hoping for These Cameos

A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor may disappoint fans hoping to see more X-Men return. While the film brings back several stars from the original X-Men movies, one group may not be part of the crossover.

The latest update comes from a Q&A with Marvel insider Alex Perez. When asked about the X-Men: First Class cast, Perez said he “heavily doubts” they will return. He also said that “not a single thing has been mentioned on that front.”

If true, this could rule out Nicholas Hoult’s younger Beast and Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique for this movie. A return for Michael Fassbender’s Magneto or James McAvoy’s Professor X would also be unlikely.

Fans had hoped the multiverse might bring both generations together. However, this report points toward a focus on the original Fox trilogy cast. At the moment, the current update is only a rumor and should be treated as such.

What X-Men characters will be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday?

Marvel has confirmed a large lineup of X-Men stars for Avengers: Doomsday. The roster includes Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto.

James Marsden returns as Cyclops, while Kelsey Grammer reprises Beast and Rebecca Romijn returns as Mystique. Alan Cumming is also back as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum is expected to appear as Gambit after his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.

So far, Marvel has not confirmed Nicholas Hoult or Jennifer Lawrence for the film. They played younger versions of Beast and Mystique in the First Class movies.

Reports also claim that several X-Men characters may have died during multiversal incursions. If true, that could limit the screen time of some fan favorites.

Avengers: Doomsday will bring together a huge crossover cast. It includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, December 18, 2026.
