His selected books include works by James Baldwin and Toni Morrison. Other choices include books by Cormac McCarthy and Marilynne Robinson. The list also features works by Robert Penn Warren and John le Carré.
Obama plans to discuss the books with several famous friends. He said the conversations would explore why the books continue to resonate. He also wants to examine literature’s importance in modern society.
Some critics quickly dismissed the podcast before hearing its first episode. One person sarcastically wrote, “I’ll use this if I ever have trouble sleeping.” Another commenter said they initially thought the announcement was a joke.
