Mark Consuelos has revealed just how much his dog Lena means to him. The actor made the surprising admission while discussing pet custody with his wife, Kelly Ripa. He joked that he would stay in a marriage without love, just to be with their beloved dog. Ripa quickly joined in with a playful response.
Mark Consuelos explains he’d stay in a ‘loveless marriage’ for Lena
During the Aug. 11 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Consuelos said, “I would stay in a loveless marriage just to make sure I could be with Lena every day.” Ripa, 55, asked, “Is that all you’re asking for, is a loveless marriage?” She then jokingly replied, “Done!” The couple discussed Pennsylvania’s proposed pet custody rules during the segment.
The bill would introduce rules for shared schedules, custody arrangements, and pet-related costs after a couple divorces. Ripa noted that the proposal could treat pet custody more like child custody cases. Consuelos said he would stay awake wondering what Lena was doing if he and Ripa divorced. Ripa added that he would wonder if another man was petting their dog.
The couple then shared a picture of Lena, a Maltese and Shih Tzu cross. “That’s my Lena,” Consuelos said, while Ripa called her “a doll face.” In March 2021, the couple took Lena home after she was featured in a segment on “Happy Pets” on Live. They fell in love with her during the broadcast and brought her into their family.
Consuelos and Ripa also share three children, Michael, 29, Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23. Ripa returned to Live after missing two weeks due to gum graft surgery. But the episodes running this week were recorded prior to the summer break. Her first newly taped appearance should come when Live with Kelly and Mark returns to its live format on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
