RHOP’s Karen Huger Gets Candid About the Lesson She Took From Prison

Karen Huger, the longest-serving star in the history of The Real Housewives of Potomac is ready to return to the show after sitting out Season 10. Ahead of the show’s eleventh season, the reality star reflected on her time in prison and shared the biggest lessons she took away from the experience.

Karen said her time away taught her the importance of accountability, sobriety, and appreciating life

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the New York City premiere of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th, Karen made it clear that she doesn’t see her absence from the Bravo series as walking away from the reality show. She said, “I never left, I paused. For a good cause, for a great cause.”

When asked how she would describe her return to RHOP, Karen said she spent her time away observing the cast while focusing on her own personal growth. “Look, growth happened. So, of course I leaned back and observed the youngins that came on and they’re brilliant. Uh, but I’m ready.” The 63-year-old reality star continued, “And so, just studying them and becoming a part of what they had done to the reunion that year while I was inside while using my picture to keep it going.”

She also revealed that she wants to share her side of story after missing last season while serving in prison. Her sentence followed her DUI-related conviction. “I think it’s a topic that needed to be shared with the world and, you know, it was my story and now I’m back to tell my side of it and author it,” Karen added.

Karen later opened up about the biggest lesson she learned during her time away from the show. According to her, the experience changed the way she looks at life.

“Anything is possible. That you can push through. You have to be accountable.” The star, who calls herself the “Grande Dame” of Potomac society, also added, “You have to get sober. You have to stay clean. And life is so beautiful when I can open my eyes and I can see you all. So, it’s lovely to be sober.”

During the interview, Karen also briefly addressed co-star Wendy Osefo’s ongoing legal troubles.
