It’s not a good idea to film yourself A young female driver was jailed after killing two people in a high-speed accident. After authorities learned that she had posted videos of herself speeding on social media days before the fatal crash, her sentence was increased by nearly three years.
Mitchell’s sentence was increased due to her ‘reckless actions’
In December 2022, 21-year-old Liberty Mitchell was speeding on the wrong side of the road in Gloucestershire, England, when her Mini Copper collided with a taxi, causing a multi-vehicle accident, according to a press release by the U.K. Attorney General’s Office.
The crash killed two, including the driver of the taxi, Octavian Codreanu, and history teacher Morya Whelan. The accident also injured six other people, with three suffering serious injuries.
A police investigation later discovered that Mitchell had posted several videos on Snapchat that showed her driving recklessly within days before the crash. One showed her veering into oncoming traffic, while another showed her speeding over 100 miles per hour.

“Liberty Mitchell’s reckless actions behind the wheel claimed the lives of two people and left many others with life-changing injuries,” said Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC MP.
“The offender had previously filmed herself speeding and shared it on social media, showing disregard for the danger she posed to others. I welcome the Court of Appeal’s decision to increase her sentence.”
Mitchell was originally sentenced to six years and eight months’ imprisonment in February after pleading guilty to two counts of causing death while uninsured, two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and three counts of dangerous driving. But at the Court of Appeal in July, her sentence was increased to nine years and three months.
