Madonna’s daughter Mercy James has quietly taken on an unexpected job that places her in TV’s biggest Bravo shows. The surprising career move also connects her with Andy Cohen, despite his long-running playful rivalry with her famous mother.
The revelation caught even Rosie O’Donnell off guard. She thought Mercy was simply another staff member when they first met.

According to the Daily Mail, Mercy, 20, has worked behind the scenes on Watch What Happens Live for about a year. A source who spotted her at the New York studio described her as “lovely” and “just the sweetest most adorable girl.”
The news first surfaced during Rosie O’Donnell’s interview with PEOPLE. She shared, “We text each other often, and I just saw her daughter on Watch What Happens Live. Her daughter, Mercy, works there.”
She then explained how the introduction unfolded. “Andy goes ‘look!’ And I thought he was introducing me to just a staff member,” O’Donnell said. “I was like, ‘Hi, what’s your name?’ And she goes, ‘Rosie, it’s Mercy!’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, what are you doing here?’”
O’Donnell added that Mercy had already worked on the show for “like a year or so,” before saying she felt “very happy for her and proud of her.”
The BTS role stands out because Madonna has famously never appeared on Watch What Happens Live. Even though the show’s been long-running since 2009.
The pop icon has even playfully teased Cohen over the years. During her 2023 Celebration Tour stop in New York City, she spotted him in the audience and joked, “If you say one more bad thing about me on your show… you’re gonna be in so much trouble. You little troublemaking queen!”
Cohen happily embraced the nickname. He later wrote on Instagram, “I’m a life-long Madonna fan.” Adding, “so it’s a thrill and an honor to be called a ‘troublemaking queen’ by the Queen of Troublemaking. I BOW!”
He also told Page Six, “The fact that the queen of troublemakers has bestowed me the name ‘troublemaking queen’ is my honor.”
