George R.R. Martin has finally started writing again. However, much to the dismay of Game of Thrones fans, the author is not working on the much-awaited Winds of Winter entry of his A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Instead, Martin has turned his attention towards the Dunk and Egg novellas and is currently developing the series’ third and fourth installments.
Ira Parker reveals George R.R. Martin is working on new Dunk and Egg novellas
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker confirmed that George R.R. Martin is writing once again. However, the 77-year-old novelist is seemingly prioritizing Dunk and Egg sequels over The Winds of Winter.
While talking about the future of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Parker noted, “I’d love to expand it from three seasons to maybe four or five. Book four, which George is working on, takes place in a very cool location. And five is the last story point of Egg as a boy.”
He continued, “It’s a very natural ending place for us to take a break and come back when Dexter is older. So then we can do Egg the Prince, do some politics, do some fun stuff in Summer Hall and King’s Landing, and get a different vibe where they’re not on the road all the time.”
George R.R. Martin has assured his fans on numerous occasions that he intends to complete the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The fan-favorite fantasy franchise has spawned five novels so far, with two still in the pipeline. Martin published his first book, A Game of Thrones, in 1996, with the latest installment, A Dance with Dragons, coming out in 2011. However, it has been 15 years since then, with no release date for The Winds of Winter in sight.
