Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams on those Arya Stark series rumors
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams addressed rumors about a potential Arya Stark spin-off series at HBO.
When asked about the rumors, Williams admitted she has no inside knowledge about the reported project. “I saw that, too! I was like, ‘Huh?'” she said about the spin-off reports. She also expressed uncertainty about reprising her iconic role from the series. “She would have to be developed in some way because I feel like I’ve changed so much,” Williams explained. She further noted that Arya’s appeal was rooted in a specific dynamic. “I feel like what people loved about Arya is that she was always a child doing things that were quite grown-up,” she added.
The spin-off rumors trace back to a Hollywood Reporter feature published in January 2026. That report primarily covered stalled plans for a Jon Snow sequel series. Sources suggested that introducing another beloved character could help revive the project. Arya was reportedly floated as one possibility for the franchise’s future.
Drops of God writer Quoc Dang Tran is reportedly developing the Arya-focused project set in Essos. However, the spin-off remains far from an official announcement at this stage. Creator George R. R. Martin has repeatedly declined to comment on specific upcoming projects.
Meanwhile, the Game of Thrones universe continues expanding through other avenues on HBO. Fans have already embraced both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. An Aegon’s Conquest movie is also reportedly gaining momentum with Andor writer Beau Williamson attached.
Williams will soon be seen in theaters in Practical Magic 2 alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The sequel to the 1998 film will be released on September 11. She also runs her production company Rapt and co-hosts the Frank Film Club podcast.
