Netflix has added Sony Pictures’ unique World War I drama film featuring Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes to its library. As of today, 2025’s historical movie The Choral is finally available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about Ralph Fiennes’ The Choral movie?
The Choral was directed by Nicholas Hytner, with Alan Bennett writing the screenplay. In the 2025 film, Fiennes played Dr. Henry Guthrie, a chorus master who is hired to direct a small-town choir that has lost most of its adult male singers to the army during World War I. It currently holds a 66% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its Popcornmeter score is slightly higher at 79%.
“As war rages on the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire, has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral’s ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks,” reads the official synopsis. “They must also engage a new chorus master. Despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie – driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together.”
The Choral also starred Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Simon Russell Beale, Robert Emms, Lyndsey Marshal, Emily Fairn, Jacob Dudman, and more. It was produced by Nicholas Hytner, Damian Jones, and Kevin Loader. Executive producers were Caroline Cooper Charles, Paul Grindey, Eva Yates, Compton Ross, Charles Moore, and Phil Hunt.
