The cast of the Margot Robbie- and Bradley Cooper-led Ocean’s Eleven prequel continues to expand. One of the major stars of 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick has now joined the growing cast of the highly anticipated movie.
Monica Barbaro joins the cast of the new Ocean’s prequel
Monica Barbaro, who portrayed Natasha “Phoenix” Trace in Maverick, has boarded the currently untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel, according to Deadline. It’s unclear what role she will be playing. Barbaro is the fourth cast member announced after Robbie, Cooper, and Wagner Moura.
Barbaro is one of the most in-demand actresses working today. She first gained attention for her performance in the viral short It’s Not About the Nail. Barbaro played various roles on TV until landing the Lifetime drama Unreal. She also had a main role in Chicago Justice.
In recent years, she has starred opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Netflix action comedy series Fubar and received a Best Supporting Oscar nomination for her performance as real-life singer-songwriter Joan Baez in 2024’s A Complete Unknown.
Besides starring, Cooper is directing and producing with Robbie’s LuckyChap. He is also working on the screenplay based on the characters originally developed by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. Carrie Solomon penned earlier drafts of the script. Notably, before Cooper, Lee Isaac Chung and Jay Roach were attached to the project as directors. However, they exited, and Cooper took the helm.
Details about the plot remain under wraps. But during this year’s CinemaCon, Robbie did hint at what the storyline might be. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” the Barbie actress said. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
Ocean’s Prequel debuts in US theaters on June 25, 2027, and will be the sixth movie in the franchise.
