Margot Robbie quietly appeared to take her husband Tom Ackerley’s surname nearly 10 years after their marriage. The “Barbie” star was recently listed under a new name in corporate documents tied to the production company she co-founded with Ackerley.
The filing showed Robbie’s name changing from Margot Elise Robbie to Margot Elise Ackerley. She had continued using Robbie professionally since becoming a director of LuckyChap Entertainment in May 2015, and she was expected to keep doing so despite the corporate update.
Margot Robbie reportedly listed as Margot Ackerley in documents published for couple’s production company
Robbie, 36, was listed as Margot Ackerley in documents published by Companies House, the UK’s business filing agency. The documents concerned LuckyChap Entertainment, which Robbie and Ackerley co-founded in 2014 with Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr. The production company went on to work on films including “I, Tonya,” “Birds of Prey,” “Barbie” and “Saltburn.”
Its upcoming projects included a live-action “The Sims” adaptation, an “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel directed by Bradley Cooper and a “Sleepy Hollow” adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney.
Robbie married Ackerley, 36, during an intimate ceremony in Byron Bay, Australia, in December 2016. The couple had started dating two years earlier and welcomed their first child, a son, in October 2024. The pair initially met in 2013 while working on the World War II drama “Suite Française.” Robbie starred in the film, while Ackerley worked as an assistant director. They became friends and roommates before their relationship turned romantic.
Robbie opened up about their unexpected romance in a 2016 interview with Vogue. “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me,” she told the publication. She also recalled being afraid to reveal her feelings. “And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before,’” she said.
Their relationship also blended naturally with their professional lives. Reportedly, Ackerley told in 2024, “It’s seamless. We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing.” The couple reportedly even had one recurring household disagreement: whether Australian Tim Tams or British Penguins were the better chocolate-covered biscuit.
