Armie Hammer’s Citizen Vigilante Lands Global Distribution After Elon Musk Boost

Armie Hammer‘s controversial action thriller, Citizen Vigilante, has found a global distributor after Elon Musk showed his support. The film premiered earlier this month in limited North American theaters and digitally.

After Elon Musk promoted Citizen Vigilante on social media, the Armie Hammer action film has secured a worldwide distributor, Quiver Distribution, Variety reported. Led by co-presidents Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz, they will distribute it globally, except in the United Kingdom, German-speaking regions, South Korea, and Taiwan. Previously, the company acquired North American rights and released it on June 19.

Musk earlier posted the movie in its entirety on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Consequently, fans got the chance to download it for free for 48 hours from Thursday to Saturday.

The story follows Michael Sanders, a man who becomes a vigilante to stop migrant criminals and corrupt officials. While his crusade makes him famous, it puts him in conflict with the local police chief.

Uwe Boll, who helmed the film, told Variety that the Tesla CEO contacted the team behind his and Gary Otto’s U.S. podcast, Uwe Boll Raw, before uploading it on the social media site.

Citizen Vigilante reportedly did not receive an age certification in Germany for promoting vigilantism. This resulted in the ban on its wide distribution. While speaking with Indie Cinema, Boll revealed that in Europe, especially Germany, he couldn’t get the film “through censorship.” He recalled their response, “You cannot show this movie in Germany.”

Currently, it can be streamed on iTunes, Amazon, Fandango, and Google Play in North America. Boll estimated that this generated roughly $600,000 so far. Pointing to its approximately $2 million budget, he stressed that the movie was still far from recouping it and generating enough to make a sequel, which Boll wanted to release in 2027.

“When you make a successful movie, you always hope that you can make a second part,” he shared. “And it would make sense to send [Sanders, the vigilante played by Hammer] to England or to send him to America, and then we go from there.”

While he confirmed he had a few ideas for a sequel, Boll revealed that a script wasn’t ready. He also believed Hammer would reprise his role, saying, “I think he would be happy to do it.”
