Elon Musk has turned his long-running criticism of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey into an AI challenge. The tech billionaire now says Grok Imagine will produce his own feature before 2026 ends.

According to Mirror, Musk announced the plan on X while sharing an AI-generated scene inspired by Homer’s epic poem. He wrote, “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”
The statement offered a clear deadline, but Musk did not reveal a production team, budget, runtime, distribution plan, or release date. He also did not explain how Grok AI would maintain consistent characters, performances, and storytelling across a feature-length project.
The announcement follows months of Musk criticizing Christopher Nolan’s adaptation. Before its July release, Musk repeatedly objected to the filmmaker’s casting choices and claimed Nolan had “lost his integrity.” He later accused the director of changing the story to improve the movie’s awards prospects.
Musk’s latest post turns those complaints into a direct creative challenge. The Elon Musk artificial intelligence project would rely on xAI’s video-generation platform rather than a traditional movie production. According to xAI, Grok Imagine Video 1.5 can generate video with synchronized dialogue, sound effects, and ambience. A June product update highlighted six-second, 720p clips produced in about 25 seconds.
Those capabilities show how quickly AI technology is developing, but they do not confirm that a coherent full-length film can be completed by Musk’s deadline. For now, the adaptation remains a public promise rather than an officially detailed production.
The proposal also creates an unusual contrast with Nolan, who has said existing protections for filmmakers are not enough as Hollywood adopts artificial intelligence. Musk, however, is presenting the same technology as a way to bypass the creative choices he disliked.
Nolan’s The Odyssey arrived in theaters on July 17 after months of online debate. Musk’s proposed version would therefore enter the conversation after the director’s movie had already reached audiences.
Whether Grok Imagine delivers a finished movie, this year remains uncertain. Still, Musk has made his goal unmistakable: He wants AI to produce the Odyssey adaptation he believes Hollywood did not.
