A popular CBS TV show is getting a spin-off expansion soon but with an unexpected twist. The spin-off is getting a new home.
What is the release date for the popular CBS TV show’s new spin-off series?
S.W.A.T, the long-running action drama, is getting an exciting spin-off. Called S.W.A.T. Exiles, the new show has finally been given a release date: September 25, 2026. However, those tuning into CBS will have to change channels as S.W.A.T Exiles will air on Starz instead. The spin-off’s first season will include 10 episodes.
As reported by Deadline, the odd decision is a result of Sony Pictures TV, S.W.A.T.’s production studio, signing a distribution deal with Starz for the U.S rights to the show, hence the network switch. The second-viewing window rights are going to an unannounced network after its initial run, with sources telling Deadline that it may end up on Netflix.
This isn’t the first time that S.W.A.T Exiles’ distribution rights have landed on an unexpected network. It was announced last week that Canadian viewers need to tune into CTV and Crave in the country next year for it.
The original S.W.A.T ran on CBS for eight seasons before getting canceled for the third, and seemingly, final time. While the spin-off will expand its world, the original show’s cast reacted negatively to the announcement.

S.W.A.T Exiles is being produced via a partnership between Sony Pictures Television Studios and Sony Pictures Television’s global distribution organization.
“S.W.A.T. Exiles engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” said Alison Hoffman, President, Starz Networks. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”
S.W.A.T Exiles stars Shemar Moore, Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit will also reprise their roles as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. David Lim will return as Victor Tan in the ninth episode of the spin-off.
