Avengers: Doomsday has received an intriguing new update concerning some of the returning Marvel heroes. The highly anticipated movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. Afterward, it will be followed by the theatrical debut of Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
Which Marvel heroes might turn into MCU villains in Avengers: Doomsday?
The latest MCU rumor comes from scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, who claims that the X-Men might become the potential villains of Avengers: Doomsday. According to him, the beloved Marvel team will reportedly fall into “morally grey areas” that may potentially turn them into villains. However, since this is only a rumor, it should be treated as such, as the official Avengers: Doomsday plot details remain under wraps at this time.
“Those guys [X-Men] have made some unbelievably dubious choices, but you can’t really blame them because they’ve had no choice,” Perez shared.
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with Stephen McFeely writing the screenplay. The latest installment will feature the return of Avengers vets Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. The ensemble cast will also include Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Lewis Pullman, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Danny Ramirez.
The fifth Avengers installment will also feature the return of X-Men stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
