Deep Blue Sea, the gory shark thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson and Thomas Jane, has become a streaming hit on Starz.
According to FlixPatrol, the film ranked at No. 10 on the platform’s top 10 movies chart in the United States on May 13, 2026. Other titles on the list include Good Fortune, The Housemaid, and Man on Fire. Meanwhile, on the platform’s overall Top 10 chart, Deep Blue Sea currently holds the sixth position.
Directed by Renny Harlin, Deep Blue Sea was released on July 28, 1999. The sci-fi horror thriller is set at an isolated ocean research facility. A team of scientists carries out experiments on genetically modified Mako sharks while searching for a possible cure for Alzheimer’s disease. However, the experiments quickly spiral out of control after the sharks become highly intelligent and begin attacking the crew.
As the underwater facility starts flooding and collapsing, the surviving researchers are forced into a deadly fight for survival while attempting to stop the sharks from escaping into the open ocean. The film stars Thomas Jane as Carter Blake, Saffron Burrows as Dr. Susan McCallister, LL Cool J as Sherman “Preacher” Dudley, Jacqueline McKenzie as Janice Higgins, and Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Franklin among others.
Upon release, Deep Blue Sea received mixed critical response. Furthermore, the film currently holds a 60% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 116 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience rating on the Popcornmeter stands at 40%.
