French President Goes Viral for Interrupting Event To Scold Crowd Over Behavior

French President Emmanuel Macron garnered massive attention for briefly stopping the 2026 Africa Forward Summit. He came forward, took the mic, and scolded the crowd over what he viewed as disrespectful behavior towards the panelists. He urged them to only stay if they intended to listen to what they had to say, and if not, he asked them to either go to the bilateral rooms or outside.

The audience’s decorum at Kenya’s Nairobi University didn’t sit well with Emmanuel Macron, who was quick to address that by taking the center stage. As he got up from his seat and took the microphone, one of the panelists commented, “Already,” before wondering if he wasn’t supposed to wait for his turn to speak. Macron initially said, “Excuse me, everybody,” before saying “hey” to silence their voices as he wanted to convey a message to them.

He said, “I’m sorry, guys, but it’s impossible to speak about culture, to have people like that, super inspired, coming here, making a speech, with such a noise. This is a total lack of respect, so I suggest if you want to have bilaterals or speak about something else, you have bilateral rooms, or you go outside.”

The President further said that if anyone wants to stay in the room, they have to be respectful and attentive towards the speaker. “Okay? Thank you,” he added after the crowd went silent, following an applause.

Many on the internet shared positive reactions to Macron’s move to call out the crowd for their bad-mannered behavior towards the speakers. A user wrote, “This is what a real leader looks like. Bravo.” Another said, “Good for him it’s one of the things I like about the French they act straight away and not wait or do nothing!” A third one added, “I was looking for a president to could respect – thank you.”

Other reactions also included “That’s a positive approach,” “well played sir, I am not a big fan of Macron , but he is 100% correct,” and “Good lad.”
