French President Emmanuel Macron was reportedly caught whispering to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he had a “difficult” meeting with President Donald Trump the night before. This came when Macron was hosting the annual Group of Seven summit in France. Zelensky later met with Trump for a one-on-one discussion.
Emmanuel Macron caught talking about Donald Trump meeting
French President Emmanuel Macron was overheard on a hot mic during the Group of Seven summit in France that he had a “difficult” meeting with President Donald Trump the night before (via The Mirror).
“Yesterday we had a difficult discussion with President Trump,” Macron reportedly said to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Their conversation was caught on a hot mic while they walked together.
This three-day summit, taking place in Évian-les-Bains, France, was focused on the U.S. and Iran striking a deal to conclude the nearly four-month conflict in the Middle East. The other primary topic of discussion in the summit was Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Perhaps, it will also become the leading point after the conclusion of Iran and the USA’s long-drawn standoff.
Macron reportedly urged Zelensky to extend his stay at the summit of world leaders, representing the U.S., Japan, France, Canada, the U.K., Italy, and Germany. Zelensky, however, declined, saying that he was due in Brussels later this week.
Macron also reportedly inquired whether the Ukrainian leader would be sitting down with Trump during the summit. Zelensky said he had not, but requested Trump to speak to him one-on-one. “OK, I will arrange that,” Macron said. Later that day, Trump told reporters that he would be talking to the Ukrainian President.
“The key focus is to strengthen air defense for Ukraine and advance diplomacy, to make Russia end its war. Peace is needed,” Zelensky said about the summit on X.
Trump, meanwhile, has called the meeting with Zelensky “very good” and pledged to do “whatever I can” on the issue.
