Taylor Swift is being sued over the title of her latest album by a solo performer who has alleged that the title infringes on her existing brand. The lawsuit comes amid growing anticipation for the pop star’s upcoming nuptials with Travis Kelce.
Taylor Swift faces new lawsuit over Life of a Showgirl
Maren Wade, a Las Vegas-based writer and performer, has sued Taylor Swift over her latest album, Life of a Showgirl. She alleges that the title closely resembles her own established work and that it was knowingly ignored. Wade filed the lawsuit on Monday in the federal court of California. The lawsuit seeks damages and is requesting that the court bar Swift from further using the album title.
In an official statement, Wade’s lawyer Jaymie Parkinnen said, “A solo performer who spent twelve years building a brand shouldn’t have to watch it disappear because someone bigger came along (via Marca).”
The complaint alleges, “They did not do so quietly. Within weeks, the designation was affixed to consumer goods, stamped onto labels, tags, and packaging, and deployed as a source identifier across retail channels—all directed at the same audience Plaintiff had spent years cultivating.”
According to reports, Wade launched her column, “Confessions of a Showgirl,” in the Las Vegas Weekly in 2014. In it, she documented her experiences as a live performer in the city. She has since used the title for her podcast as well as her live shows.
Wade claims that Taylor Swift has ignored her original claim to the title by naming her album “Life of a Showgirl.” This has allegedly led to confusion among fans, with some believing that Wade has copied the title from Swift. The complaint further states that this “continued erosion of that mark threatens the entirety of” Wade’s brand.
The lawsuit against Taylor Swift comes ahead of her upcoming wedding to Travis Kelce. The couple announced their engagement in August 2025. Although reports claim that wedding preparations are underway, the pair has yet to reveal the official wedding date.
