Critically Acclaimed British Sitcom Gets Exciting Season 2 Update

With the BBC series Small Prophets garnering stunning reviews from viewers and critics alike, program creator Mackenzie Crook has shared his plans for the sitcom’s Season 2. In a recent interview, the actor/director revealed that he wants to pen a follow-up edition to his hit sitcom that will feature more episodes than the debut chapter. However, Crook also disclosed in the same discussion that he intends to wrap up the series with its sequel season.

Mackenzie Crook reveals he wants to end Small Prophets with Season 2

During his recent appearance at the Series Mania festival, Crook opened up about his plans for Small Prophets.

“I want to write a second series,” the Pirates of the Caribbean star told Deadline. “I want it to be eight episodes, and then I want to leave it there. I haven’t written it yet. I don’t know exactly what happens, but I think that would be great. First half [ends with] to be continued. Second half, the end. And there’s your story.”

Having starred in, developed, written, and directed Small Prophets, Crook spent a decade piecing together the British comedy. However, he is confident Small Prophets Season 2 won’t take as long as its predecessor to materialize. “The majority of the ten years was figuring out what it was. Now I know what it is, I just have to go and finish off the adventure,” he noted, adding, “I’m quite excited about that because I want to know what happens next and I’m the one who gets to figure that out.”

Featuring Pearce Quigley in the lead, Small Prophets revolves around the misadventures of an eccentric man named Michael Sleep. Struggling to adjust to a new normal after losing his partner, Sleep stumbles upon an alchemical recipe for homunculi. After dipping his toes into the magical world of alchemy, Sleep uses the homunculi to find answers regarding his missing girlfriend. The show premiered on February 9, 2026, and currently holds an impeccable score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
