Harry Potter TV series set hires serious security amid death threats. In an exclusive interview with Variety, HBO boss Casey Bloys spoke about his reaction to Paapa Essiedu admitting that he received death threats after he was cast as Snape.

Bloys said they did predict this to some degree, but the backlash is certainly more extreme than they imagined. He remarked, “With all actors on any kind of big IP shows — and this is obviously one of those where you’ve got, you know, passionate fans, people with a lot of opinions — it can get scary in places. So for any show like that, we anticipated it and tried to have training, you know, best practices in terms of social media and how to handle it.”

Bloys confirmed that they “obviously” have “got a serious security team.” “So unfortunately, it was something that we thought might happen and we just try to be as careful as we can,” he shared heartbreakingly.

Furthermore, Bloys clarified that they haven’t cast Lord Voldemort yet and quashed rumors about Tilda Swinton in the same interview.

On March 24, HBO Max shared the first official photo from the Harry Potter TV series. They shared a photo of the new Harry wearing his iconic Quidditch outfit with “Potter” printed in bold letters and number 7. They shared the photo with the intriguing caption, “Tomorrow,” followed by a lightning emoji.

Finally, one fan remarked, “Oh we’re sooo BACK!!!!”
